Discover Las Iguanas - Birmingham - Temple Street

Walking into Las Iguanas Birmingham Temple Street feels like stepping out of the city and into a laid-back Latin American hangout. Tucked into Somerset House at 39-40 Temple St, Birmingham B2 5DP, United Kingdom, this spot has become a familiar choice for locals who want colour, flavour, and a menu that doesn’t play it safe. I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually before a show or after a long workday, and the atmosphere consistently lands somewhere between lively and comfortably relaxed.

The menu is where the personality really shows. It leans heavily into bold Latin American cooking, with dishes inspired by Brazil, Mexico, and the Caribbean. On my last visit, the jerk chicken arrived smoky and properly spiced, not toned down for timid palates. Friends often go for the burritos or fajitas, and they’re built generously, with fresh toppings and sauces that taste house-made rather than poured from a bottle. There’s also a solid plant-based section, which reflects a wider shift in UK dining habits; industry data from hospitality groups like UKHospitality shows rising demand for vegetarian and vegan options, and this restaurant clearly keeps up.

Drinks deserve their own moment. The cocktail list is long, playful, and clearly central to the experience. During a casual team dinner here, we tested a handful of classics and seasonal specials, and the balance was impressive-sweet without being syrupy, strong without being harsh. Margaritas are a popular order, and judging by nearby tables and online reviews, they’re a big reason people come back. Reviews across major dining platforms often highlight consistency, which matters more than novelty in a busy city-centre location.

Service has generally been friendly and well-paced in my experience. Even on packed weekend evenings, staff tend to explain the menu confidently and keep things moving without rushing. That level of training aligns with practices promoted by organisations like the Institute of Hospitality, which emphasise guest engagement and product knowledge as key drivers of repeat visits. It shows when servers can recommend dishes based on heat level or dietary needs without disappearing to check the kitchen.

Location plays a big role in the appeal. Being on Temple Street means it’s an easy walk from New Street Station and close to theatres, offices, and shopping areas. I’ve noticed many diners using it as a meeting point, which makes sense given the flexible seating and varied menu. Whether it’s a quick lunch, a birthday dinner, or casual drinks, the space adapts well. The décor-bright colours, murals, and warm lighting-keeps energy high without feeling overwhelming.

From a trust perspective, the restaurant benefits from the brand’s national reputation. Las Iguanas restaurants across the UK are regularly assessed by the Food Standards Agency, and this location has maintained strong public feedback over time. That doesn’t mean everything is flawless. During peak hours, waits can stretch longer than expected, and some dishes lean more toward crowd-pleasing than adventurous. If you’re chasing deeply regional authenticity, a smaller independent spot might go further.

Still, for a central Birmingham diner offering reliable flavours, a broad menu, and an upbeat atmosphere, this place delivers more often than not. The mix of Latin American comfort food, accessible pricing, and a well-known location explains why it continues to attract steady footfall and positive reviews from both first-timers and regulars looking for something familiar that still feels like a treat.

  • We booked a bottomless brunch and quite apprehensive after doing one else where before and getting hardly any drinks but here they just kept flowing! Excellent service and value for money too. Food was also delicious - highly recommend!

  • Food was lovely really nice even without the bottomless upgrades. I’m veggie and there’s lots of options! Drinks are a really good selection and was served by Alex and Soroush they looked after us well made sure we had lots of drinks. Quiet restaurant but expected for a weekday in January! Would definitely recommend a weekday bottomless I can imagine you get more drinks compared to a busy weekend! Celebrating my birthday and got a lovely birthday dessert on the house was super yummy!

  • I had a lovely time at Las Iguanas and the experience was made even better by our waiter, Luke. He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel really welcome from start to finish. The service was great and he checked in at just the right times without being intrusive. Overall, a really enjoyable visit – thank you Luke for making it such a nice experience. I’ll definitely be back!

  • Las Iguanas Birmingham (Temple Street) nails vibrant Latin American vegetarian meals that burst with flavor and spice—perfect for plant-based diners craving variety after busy recruitment days in the city. Ordered a fully vegetarian feast for takeaway: Veggie Chilli Quesadilla, Sweet Potato & Squash Chilli, Bahian Curry (vegan style), and Padron Peppers to start. Everything arrived steaming, well-packaged in separate compartments to keep textures intact—no soggy disappointments here. The Veggie Chilli, loaded with sweet potato, butternut squash, chickpeas, and spiced tomatoes, paired brilliantly with spring onion rice and corn tortilla chips. Topped with guacamole, pink pickled onions, and Aji salsa, it delivered creamy heat balanced by fresh crunch—around 419 kcal and deeply satisfying at £12.50.

  • Myself and my friend enjoyed the amazing lunch deal yesterday - a main and a drink for just £10. The food is fairly average but the portion size and service made up for it. Lovely, friendly atmosphere.

  • Las Iguanas on Temple Street in Birmingham is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves vibrant Latin flavours and refreshing cocktails. The food is absolutely delicious — full of bold spices and fresh ingredients. The fajitas are sizzling and perfectly seasoned, while the enchiladas and tacos burst with authentic taste and generous portions. The drinks menu is just as impressive, especially their signature cocktails. The caipirinhas and mojitos are expertly mixed, refreshing, and full of tropical flair. It’s the perfect place for a fun evening out with friends or even a casual dinner date. The lively atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food-and-drink combo make Las Iguanas a must-visit in Birmingham city centre. Highly recommended!

  • We had a fab time for a bottomless brunch. We all had an upgrade for food which was delicious and plentiful! I couldn’t finish mine! The cocktails were amazing and free flowing. Not once did we have to call the wait staff over, they were very attentive and were checking in on us to make sure we had everything we wanted. Will definitely be returning!!
